Ease of use describes the primary focus of our Diamond Charcoal Island Barbecue Grille. We feel that the more time spent cooking and the less time spent cleaning - the better your outdoor BBQ grilling & cooking experience is going to be.
Your new Diamond Charcoal Grille will fit into a variety of island BBQ styles because it is modular and meant to adapt to various home and patio designs. We approach the engineering of our charcoal barbecue grills using a 4 layer model. What we mean by this is that we describe the barbecue functions we want to build in - and then engineer the barbecue grill to those functions, and the benefits we attribute to those functions. For example:
- The barbecue cleaning and disposal layer is the bottom level. We will call it layer 1. This layer includes the funneled pit, the drain, the piping and waste disposal, the clean water feed and the grey water emulsion containing ash, water and whatever other residue was captured during the cleaning process.
- The heat source is one of two mid levels. We'll call it layer 2. This layer includes the funnel pit as well - but also the sides with the fitting grooves, the perforated bracket that covers the drain during cooking, the perforated tray that holds the "lift out" charcoal boxes with the heated charcoal, the firing box where up to 4 "lift out" racks will be ignited, the coil at the bottom of the firing box to provide ignition heat, the electrical assembly to automate the lighting process, the shut-off timer, the blower that blasts the heat upward into the firing box and "lift out" charcoal containers, and the shelves outside the firing box that provide a resting surface for indirect heat.
- The grille assembly is the upper of the two mid levels - referred to as level 3. This layer includes the top fitting grooves to rest the BBQ grille assemblies on, the 6 barbecue grill segments, and the grill lifting tool - which is also used to lift the "lift out" boxes of ignited charcoal.
- The hood assembly is the top level and provides protection from the elements for layers 1 through 3. This is layer 4. The hood assembly is a steel bar mounted gateway that is rounded for appearance and ease of cleaning. There is a resting perimeter for when it is down and a resting stop bracket in back for when it is up. There is a handle on the front that never gets hot, and the mounting foundation to which the funneled pit is attached and for which attachments are provided to whatever style of island cooking area you select.
This layered approach allows us to create a self contained unit of functionality that is part of the first level bill of materials for each layer. We can refine and improve each level independently without having to redesign the entire unit. In addition, major components can be swapped out as desired. Finally, the layered approach allows us to design the Diamond Charcoal Island Barbecue Grill into a wide variety of counters and kitchen work area assemblies without altering the basic structure and thereby having to create a "one of a kind" unit for each customer.
